It finally has become painfully aware to you that having a good opt-in list is necessary for a successful online business. You now have proof positive in the form of case studies you have read of other successful people using opt-in lists along with the expert advice you have sought out. In fact, you are probably losing money because you don’t have an opt-in list.
Or, you maybe hiring writers to ghost write for you. There may be other expenses that you are paying. Even if your list is large but your sales are small, you probably are still losing money. Just wait, in 2 or 3 months you will see that you are not making enough money to pay all your bills.
Thus, where is the error in your thinking? Why have others succeeded where you have failed? The most common mistake is that you dove straight right in. You picked a topic that you had a hunch that if would make money and found out that you were wrong. Just because you sent an email to your list about a product does not within itself mean that people will buy from you immediately.
If you have started an opt-in list and it has not become profitable here is some free advice. If you are just now starting to build your list, you’re in luck!
1) Get your customers to trust you and your products first. Simply blasting to your list without credibility will not cause someone to buy from you. Put out many articles first as you are starting an opt-in list. A good idea would be to go to forums first and read the comments from other posters. That way you can learn of what their wants and needs are. And, then you can focus on those wants and needs.
You should join several forums about the subject. Then offer your advice and suggestions. After you have become a regular poster to the forum people will want to join you opt-in list. Although you may have to do it by going into a ‘private chat’ mode on the forum, you can give the poster a link to your site so they can learn more of what your business is.
The fact of the matter is that people will not buy from you if they don’t trust you. Therefore, you must build that trust first. They want a product or service that could be a good exchange for their money. People are not going to buy something out of your recommendation if they don’t know you.
2) Find a product or service that people want and need. Even though it may not be in your level of expertise, it you promote a product or service that you have examined and have become quite familiar with, you can still sell it.
While it is true that it is best to sell something that you have interest in, there are not many people who have the same interest as you if you decide to sell something that is not entirely popular or profitable. Do your research well and you would see the profits come in. Also provide your subscribers with promotional material that they could actually use and spread around.
3) Develop relationships with other list owners. This can be really useful if that person has launched a successful opt-in list before.
Experienced opt-in list users will be able to tell you what to do and what not to do because they have gone through it.
Creating a profitable subscriber list overnight is an unrealistic goal. There are lots of things to do. You build opt-in lists from the beginning. But the quality must be kept up at all times. I will close by saying that if you want people on your lists to buy from you, you must give them good information they can use. By doing that they will stay on your opt-in list. If you would join a forum or perhaps a few forums, you can learn what your potential customers want and need. And you must do proper keyword research in order to make sure that your opt-in list is targeted.
