Building An Opt-In Email List

Developing your own list of targeted potential customers is the absolute most powerful marketing strategy you can use.

It doesn't matter what strategies you're currently using, if you're not collecting the email addresses of your potential customers, you're literally guaranteeing your failure.

An opt-in list is a list or database containing email addresses of individuals who have chosen to receive your email messages. These messages may be web site updates, product updates or may be in the form of an ezine. They provide you with a direct line of communication with potential customers and enable you to promote your products or services.

So how do you start up your own ezine? You can write it yourself, publish some of the many free articles available on the internet, or do a combination of the two. You can choose from the selection of home business articles, here. Any of these articles can be reprinted, as long as the article is not changed and the author's resource box is retained.  

When you have chosen your material, your next step is the tool to make it work - an autoresponder. There are many autoresponders available on the market today, but I strongly recommend the autoresponder from GetResponse. The basic version is free and you can optionally upgrade to a paid version which has more features and no advertising. Once you have a little more knowledge you might try buying your own autoresponder script which costs a bit more up front but cuts out your monthly subscription.

Once all this is set up, all you need is subscribers! One free way to do this is to search for ezine directories on Google and submit your website/ezine in these directories, or use some software such as Ezine Announcer to do all of this automatically for you.
Another way is to put a form on your website and promote your website using some of the ideas on my Internet Marketing Advice page.

If your operating budget is tight, there are several free methods you can use to build a list:

ListDotCom is another free method that I am currently using to build a list. This system allows you to send an email once every three days. Your member base will continue to grow underneath you because all members are encouraged and rewarded for referring at least 5 members to our site. You can use the random option to reach new people and get more exposure!

If you have money to spare, it is a good idea to buy opt-in leads. I personally only buy co-registration double opt-in leads - people who have actually signed up for my newsletter, as these are of a much higher quality than the leads who have just signed up to receive information on a particular subject.
